Using A-Dock : Drag&drop

Dragging a document onto an application

A-Dock lets you drag&drop documents onto applications even if that application is not the one that created the document.

Let's say you have a PictureViewer GIF file you want to open with GraphicConverter which is already running on your computer. Drag the file onto the dock. If the dock wasn't expanded, it will expand by itself. A-Dock will look like :

GraphicConverter icon is hilited and the tooltip tells you that you can open the file you dragged with GraphicConverter.

If you were dragging the file onto SimpleText for instance (which cannot open a GIF file), it would look like :

Tooltips will always give you some feedback about what you're doing in A-Dock.

Dragging a document onto a folder

Drag&dropping documents over a folder works exactely like in the Finder. If you drag a document, A-Dock will move the document into the folder. If you hold down the option key, it will copy it, and if you hold both the option and the command keys, it will create an alias to it.

Dragging a document onto a item inside a folder

Like the Finder, A-Dock has "spring-loaded folders".
When dragging an item onto a folder in A-Dock, the content of this folder will popup as a menu after a brief delay (or immediately if you press the space bar). You'll then be able to drop the item on any item inside the folder, and inside its sub-folders.

Dragging a text, picture or URL...

A-Dock is able to create clippings. If you drag&drop some text over a folder in A-Dock, it will create a text clipping inside that folder. It also works for pictures and sounds.

A-Dock also recognizes URLs. If you drag a text that is an internet address, A-Dock will detects which type of URL (http, ftp, mailto....) it is and will create the appropriate clipping.

Dragging to the Trash icon

Dragging to the Trash icon works like in the Finder. Dragging a file/folder will move it to the trash. Dragging a volume will eject/unmount it.

Dragging to the Desktop icon

Dragging to the Desktop icon works like you were really dragging that file to the desktop.
